Dedicated to the 32nd Anniversary of the “Contract of the Century” and the 9th Anniversary of the “New Contract of the Century”
“The New Geopolitical Realities of the South Caucasus and Azerbaijan’s Regional Energy Strategy”
The “Contract of the Century,” signed on 20 September 1994, laid the foundation for Azerbaijan's energy strategy by integrating the country into international energy markets and establishing its pivotal role in regional and global energy security. In the subsequent period, the implementation of major energy projects, particularly the strategic objectives defined within the framework of the “New Contract of the Century,” not only ensured the continuity of Azerbaijan’s energy policy but also further strengthened the country’s leadership position in the region.
Against the backdrop of the profound geopolitical transformations that have taken place in the South Caucasus following Azerbaijan’s victory in the Second Karabakh War, the energy policy priorities of the countries in the region have been substantially reshaped, while renewable energy development strategies have come to the forefront. The primary objective of the International Conference on “The New Geopolitical Realities of the South Caucasus and Azerbaijan’s Regional Energy Strategy” is to provide a scholarly platform for analyzing the new regional geopolitical environment emerging in the post-war period, assessing the energy security architecture of the South Caucasus, examining the strategic directions of Azerbaijan’s energy policy, and discussing the country’s regional leadership within the context of the energy factor.
